The Village of Ruidoso is a resort
community nestled in the beautiful
Sacramento mountains, 6,800 ft.
above sea level. The Spanish name,
comes from the Rio Ruidoso or
"Noisy River," which runs through
the center of town.
Winters are mild and summers cool.
The air is clean and dry. You'll find
beautiful scenery, warm friendly
people, outstanding shops,
restaurants, galleries and
spectacular summer skies.
Nearby are many historic and
interesting places to visit, including
Indian ruins, ghost towns, Lincoln,
NM, and White Sands National
Monument. Ruidoso is 130 miles
north of El Paso and 180 miles
southeast of Albuquerque. Lone Star
Air flies between Ruidoso and
Dallas/Ft. Worth.
Tourism is a major industry,
especially summer horse racing and
winter skiing. Despite having only
5,000 permanent residents, 12,000
homes provide a tax base for
improvements and amenities seldom
found in a village this size. In peak
vacation times the population can
grow to 30,000.
